The current school calendar law is under threat in the state legislature.

Tampering with or repealing the law could drastically change school start and end dates for districts across the state. Before the current school calendar law passed in 2004, individual schools districts began and ended the school year whenever they chose, with many beginning in early August.

Legislators responded to parents’ concerns and enacted the 2004 calendar law to create more uniform school calendars, making it so most schools started no earlier than August 25th and ended no later than June 10th.* Now some interests want to either remove the law from the books or weaken it so schools could start much earlier again.

We need your help. Please contact your legislator and tell them to oppose any measure that would harm the current school calendar law. Tell them to represent North Carolina families and not jeopardize our summers.

weather days.
